Chiropractic is the largest primary care health discipline that seeks to establish health and well being through natural means.
While some think of us as “bone doctors”, our primary concern is the function of the nervous system. A mal-position of a bone (called a subluxation) can cause an alteration in nerve function. The nervous system controls and coordinates all bodily functions. Therefore, anything that interferes with the function of the nervous system, like a subluxation, can adversely affect health.
In chiropractic, we look for areas of disturbance in the nervous system and correct this interference. We do this with adjustments. To identify these areas of interference, a thorough chiropractic examination is performed for each new patient. This examination will include orthopedic, neurologic, range of motion and muscle tests. X-rays are not typically taken, but may be in the case of a trauma, accident, or when a suspicious mass is present.
Chiropractic examinations are non-invasive and are performed with the patient fully clothed. This initial examination is used to determine the course of treatment, as well as any other care necessary to establish optimal health.
Initial examinations for chiropractic care take approximately 30 to 45 minutes, with an extra 15 to 30 minutes typically scheduled for any adjustment necessary. The fees for the initial examination are based upon the complexity of the case and range from $50-75 for children to $75-$100 for adults. Fees for any adjustment performed in conjunction with the initial examination typically cost $35-$85.00.
